Start Date June 5, 2023 and serve for a 12-month term

Position Title:            Coordinator
Location: James River Basin Partnership office, Springfield, MO.
Position Description:  This AmeriCorps VISTA member will be sponsored and supervised by the James River Basin Partnership and Missouri Smallflows Organization.  This person will help further goals of both organizations by enhancing water education programs and capacity building of outreach programs. 

JRBP Objectives:
Work with JRBP staff to build the capacity of our existing outreach program to provide water quality education to Title One schools and rural communities throughout the James River watershed.
  • Develop activity guides and other outreach materials that promote and enhance JRBP’s existing outreach program.
  • Consult with site supervisor about grants and other funding opportunities as needed.
  • With approval and guidance from supervisor, apply for select grants and funding opportunities.
Work with JRBP staff and local contacts to implement litter cleanups and place-based learning opportunities for low-income youth.
  • Update existing database of qualifying schools and contact information.
  • Research grants and sponsorship opportunities that allow local schools and organizations to overcome challenges that would otherwise prevent them from participating in outreach programs.
  • Work with JRBP staff to coordinate scheduling of outreach programs, event logistics and volunteer recruitment.
MSO’s Objectives:
Work with MSO’s Executive Director to build an outreach program to provide career education to Title One schools and rural communities throughout the James River watershed.
  • Develop career education material about the onsite wastewater industry.
  • Develop programs to visit schools on Career Days to inform youth of a career in the onsite wastewater industry.
  • With approval and guidance of MSO Executive Director, develop a mentorship program to inform students of career opportunities post-high school.
Work with MSO’s Executive Director to build an outreach program to provide Homeowner Education pertaining to onsite wastewater treatment systems.  This program will reach out to youth in high school, and work to reach out to veteran or low-income family organizations in Springfield.   
  • Develop career education material about the onsite wastewater industry.
  • Develop programs to visit schools on Career Days to inform youth of a career in the onsite wastewater industry.
  • With approval and guidance of MSO Executive Director, develop a mentorship program to inform students of career opportunities post-high school.
  • Implement workshops or meetings to engage the public to learn about onsite wastewater treatment systems. 
  • Plan and host a Career Day at the Springfield Onsite Wastewater Demonstration Center to showcase the careers in onsite wastewater.
